No more. No less

Doppelganger

It’s like taking off the training wheels. Your balance slightly off, your nerves heightened. An exhilarated feeling tempered with a touch of fear. Fear of falling, of failing, of bruised knee and ego.

Except a bicycle promises familiarity. And here there’s only blind faith and will, the final prize as yet unknown but the price of failure all too easily imagined. What is expected of us, what success looks like, it’s all a mystery that will only be revealed when we no longer draw breath.

We search for the thrill that victory should bring, hide from the shame of defeat.
